The campsite at Bakkafjörður is located in the middle of the village. Electricity is available, as well as a bathing area at the nearby guesthouse. From Bakkafjörður, there are many walking trails such as to Digranes or to Viðvík. At Bakkafjörður, a guesthouse is now operated next to the campsite and a small shop and café by the old harbor. There is also a petrol and diesel station. Playground for young children at the guesthouse. There is a fish processing plant and fishing in Bakkafjörður and the new harbor is one of the deepest small boat harbors in the country.
Near Bakkafjörður is the Þórshöfn swimming pool and a good facility there. It is also a short distance to the Selárdalur swimming pool. The oldest timber church in the country and the parish church of the Bakkafjörður people is at Skeggjastaðir, which was built in 1845.
